Aditya-L1 has been operational for over 1,070 days at the Sun-Earth L1 Lagrange point — 1.5 million km from Earth. Launched 2 September 2023, inserted into L1 orbit 6 January 2024. All 7 instruments are functioning nominally. Track live at ISRO Missions Live.

What Is Aditya-L1 Doing?

Aditya-L1 continuously observes the Sun's corona, solar winds, solar flares, and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). This uninterrupted observation — impossible from Earth due to night and atmosphere — provides early warning of solar storms that could damage satellites and power grids.

Why the L1 Point?

The L1 Lagrange point allows 24/7 uninterrupted solar observation with no occultation. Only USA (4 spacecraft), ESA (1), and now India have placed observatories at L1 — making India the 3rd nation to do so.
